Children at the centre of SCSA and Henkel partnership

Monday 2 December 2019
Save the Children South Africa (SCSA) has officially received a donation of almost half a million rand (€30, 000), after participating in Henkel’s global 50th birthday competition. The cheque was handed over at an event hosted at the Bounce indoor trampoline park in Midrand on Monday.

In June Henkel’s popular Pritt glue stick, which has been part of many South Africans’ childhoods, hosted a birthday party for children at their premises in Johannesburg.

The birthday theme was “Crafting for Children” and saw employees, customers and children alike, creating hundreds of mini figurines of what they would like or wanted to be when they grow up.

All the figurines were sent to Germany, where they were placed on display outside Henkel’s headquarters during September. Out of ten countries including Japan, India and Brazil, South Africa came second in the competition.

Speaking at the cheque’s handover, Henkel’s Consumer & Craftsman Country Manager,
Jeanine Els said partnering with SCSA was an easy decision to make.

“Pritt is all about making an impact in the lives of children, the education of children and early childhood development…we partnered with Save the Children South Africa because their mission and vision spoke to everything we believe in,” says Henkel’s Consumer & Craftsman Country Manager, Jeanine Els.

SCSA’s Partnership Manager, Dianne van der Tuin received the cheque on behalf of the organisation.

“We are very grateful to Henkel for selecting Save the Children as your partner, as we continue to strengthen child rights in South Africa and across the world. The rights of the child is at the core of both our businesses.”

The money will be used for infrastructure upgrades and continuation of staff development at the Hlayisanani ECD centre in Alexandra.
