Save the Children South Africa (SCSA) reached over 300,000 children & adults in 2020, responding to the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a record for SCSA - more than we have ever reached in a single year. It is driven mostly by our emergency response through which we have distributed 60 tons of food, provided cash transfers to 550 families, helped children with distance learning, alongside a range of other support,” says SCSA CEO Steve Miller.
The distributions took place in various areas of the country, including Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State and Mpumalanga. Save the Children worked with various partners to ensure that this is achieved.
“I would like take this opportunity on behalf of Future Families to thank Save the Children for the food donations of 30 Boxes of rusks (360X 450g boxes and 10 Boxes of eggs (100 crates). The food parcels were distributed to people from various nationalities which included South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe,” says Future Families’ Faith Chirinda.
“I express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation (400 1kgs of instant porridge). The donation came at the right time during these trying lockdown times season. Some of our donors have been negatively impacted and have not been able to give us regular donations. We had to skimp on some of our food items, including instant porridge, which is really enjoyed by our children, ” says Tembisa Child &Family Welfare Society’s Lindi Molefe.
Hygiene packs and masks, which are key in the fight against COVID-19, were also part of the distributions.
“For the soaps you donated to our school, we are very grateful, may the good lord bless you abundantly. they will surely make a difference in fighting the pandemic we are faced with. The learners were very excited when they received them and promised to use them accordingly,” says Khutala J. Primary School’s Nokulunga Khumalo.
Save the Children continues to work with various partners, to reach more children.
