PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONGST OUR YOUTH
Monday 4 November 2019
South Africa’s unemployment statistics are sky- high, which is why programmes that promote entrepreneurship amongst our youth are so critically important. Recognising the crucial role of job creation the social and economic well- being of young people, entrepreneurship is a key element of Save the Children’s Youth Engagement & Socio-Economic Engagement Project (YESEEP).
One aspect of this project is market days, which act as a platform to enable young people to come up with business ideas, develop business plans, set up their businesses – and then run, manage and liquidate them.
Working through targeted schools, the project also supports youth-led clubs to arrange events within and outside of their schools in order to showcase their business skills and market their products. This in itself is a valuable learning experience: it enables young people to test their business ideas and get a taste of experiencing what it’s like to be an entrepreneur.
Teachers are also included in this exciting initiative, since the project also helps them to align their class work with the market day events.

About: Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. In South Africa and around the world, we give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. We do whatever it takes for children – every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share.
Note to the Editor: If children are affected, we’ve got something to say. Our team of experts are available for comments, interviews and information.
